4:102. – The Command to bare arms.

And when thou art among them, uphold thou the Salat for them; then let there stand a number of them with thee, and let them take their arms; then when they have submitted, let them be behind you and let another number come that has not performed the Salat, and let them perform the Salat with thee; and let them take their precautions and their arms. (Those who disbelieve wish that you would neglect your arms and your equipment, so they might assault you in a single assault; but you do no wrong if there is a hindrance to you from rain or you are sick, that you lay aside your arms; but take your precautions: Allah has prepared for the Kafireen a humiliating punishment.)

4:102

Allah orders the believers to take our precautions and bare our arms. This is a clear command. The only time we are allowed to lower our arms is in the event of مَّطَرٍ which is not just rain- but  a punishment an  عَذَابٍ being rained down from the Samaa/Firmament. Or in the case of مَّرْضَىٰٓ ie you are diseased.

And We rained upon them a rain. Then see thou how was the final outcome of the lawbreakers.

(7:84)

And when they say: “O Allah: if this be the truth from Thee, then rain Thou down upon us stones from the sky, or bring Thou us a painful punishment!”

(8:32)

Al-Hijr 15:74

English – Sahih International

And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.

Hud 11:82

English – Sahih International

So when Our command came, We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of layered hard clay, [which were]

And We rained upon them a rain; and evil is the rain of those who were warned.

(26:173)

Al-Ahqaf 46:24

English – Sahih International

And when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, “This is a cloud bringing us rain!” Rather, it is that for which you were impatient: a wind, within it a painful punishment,

We can observe that the Aslihat are inseparable from al Salat, and a requirement for al Salat. An absolutely fundamental part of being a Muslim.

The root of Aslihat is  سلح – and is unmistakably close to صلح reconciliation / reform & صلي Salah.

The ayat above also shows that the Aslihat and Salat can not be separated. You must have your Aslihat for the Salat. You can’t do Al Salat without your Aslihat as this ayat makes clear. The salat also clearly has a relation to combat / war ie Zakariya performs Salat in the Mihraab محراب. 3:37, 3:39, 19:11. The root of this word is War-  ح ر ب. Not just a prayer niche.

In 12:31 The Arabic word for knife is سِكِّينًا Sikkina. This comes from the root word سكن which is related to peace, tranquility, ones dwelling place, and rest.

This is also where the word for a Sikh individual comes from , Sikki. And they uphold the same right to bare their arms. The Irish & Scotts also call a knife Skeen – originating from the Arabic word Sikkin, although they spell it Sgian it’s pronounced Skeen.

At any cost, a man should not be a sitting duck, and should be prepared at all times. A man should not outsource his safety, protection & defence to another man, another mere mortal. Rather we should trust in Allah, and obey what he Allah commands, which is to take our precaution and bare our arms. The matter is concluded.

Just as the Kirpan is Protected by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and Offensive Weapons Act 2019, which exempt it from general knife laws for religious reasons. – so are our Aslihat which Allah explicitly commands us in 4:102.

& under the Equality Act 2010, meaning discrimination is unlawful.

The word Kirpan shares the arabic root of K R B – Distress. And is carried by the Sikki – which is unmistakably close to the word for knife in arabic, and they are also the main or only group of people known for baring their arms. Most muslims have never heard that Allah commands them to bare their arms, why? The answer is in 25:30:

And the Messenger will say: “O my Lord: my people took this Qur’an as a thing abandoned.”

(25:30)

Other words for sword include Sayf – clearly like the word Safe. Another word used for a dagger / knife is Janbiya. Jambiya. From the Arabic root J N B / ج ن ب – which means Side. Ie your side, ie one would carry a weapon on or by their side.

The kirpan is the equivalent in the eyes of the law as the Aslihaat in the Quran.

And is actually where it is inspired from.

The New Testament also has a similar thing inspired from the Qur’an;

Then said He unto them, “But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it and likewise his pack; and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one

Luke 22:36

We can see all around us in the creation of Allah that all creatures have some means of defending themselves & getting themselves away from danger. The only exception to this seems to be humans. Dogs have incredible teeth, biting force, speed & strength. Cats have talon like claws, and insane agility, speed, and ferocity. Some animals inject venom, some produce poison, others are covered in armour made of spikes, quills or shells. Humans generally do not have any of these things and require the use of tools / weaponry to defend themselves.

Criminals who rob, murder and rape do not have any regard for the Law and will indeed continue to carry weapons also. Meanwhile Good men choose to remain unarmed & helpless. Despite Allah commanding us to take our precautions & bare our arms.

Hukm is for Allah.
